The Field Was Arrested With a Warrant in the Texas Derby

Warrant, a son of Constitution, overcame a brutally wide trip to win the Inaugural $300,000 Texas Derby at Lone Star Park. Favored in the 1 1/16-mile heat over nine rivals, Warrant scored by three parts of a length over Mr. Wireless, with Rightandjust third and Arkansas Derby (G1) winner Super Stock fourth.

He traveled five wide staying relatively clean in mid-pack down the backside. When Joel Rasario asked him to pick up the leaders at the three-eighths pole, Warrant had plenty left in the tank to take over his rivals at the sixteenth pole and grind his path to victory.

Third in his debut and a maiden graduate over six furlongs in his second start, both at Fair Grounds, Warrant next finished second by a nose in a Keeneland allowance to his barn mate Joe Frazier. Stretching out for the first time in the nine-furlong Oaklawn S. on May 1st, Warrant finished second behind stable mate Fulsome, who subsequently captured the Matt Winn (G3) at Churchill Downs this past Saturday.

By Constitution, Warrant was produced by Whisper Number, by First Samurai, and is half-brother to Grade 2 winner Ms Locust Point. The Kentucky-bred’s record now stands at 5-2-2-1, $294,700.

A homebred for Twin Creeks Racing Stable and trained by Brad Cox, Warrant has a full brother named War Room and his dam produced a Good Magic colt last term and was bred back to Constitution this season.
