TOP GUN- Red Rifle keeps the Pletcher barn huming

Nearly unstoppable! There are many words and phrases that could describe the run Todd Pletcher is on a fifth of the way through the 2015 Saratoga Race Course meeting.

Red Rifle’s 2 ½-length win over War Dancer in the Bowling Green emphasized not only the depth and strength of Pletcher’s stable, but the gelding’s own versatility. The 5-year-old Giant’s Causeway gelding won the 1 ¼-mile Dominion Day Stakes on Polytrack at Woodbine a month ago, his fourth career stakes victory along with the Maxxam Gold Cup and Grade 2 Hawthorne Gold Cup on dirt and the Yankee Affair going 12 furlongs on grass. The 1 3/8-mile Bowling Green was his second try at graded company on the grass, following a close second in Keeneland’s Sycamore last fall, and he did it professionally with Javier Castellano aboard.
