Giant’s Causeway Colt is Pre-‘Destined’ at Big Sandy

2nd-BEL, $75,000, Msw, 10-11, 2yo, 7f, 1:23.54, ft.

DESTIN (c, 2, Giant’s Causeway–Dream of Summer {GISW, $1,191,150}, by Siberian Summer), a full-brother to 2011 GI Norfolk S. winner Creative Cause (GISW, $1,039,000), was sent off at 9-2 in this debut. The gray colt was away well and raced along the rail in a tightly bunched pack of five vying for the early lead. Forced to wait for running room after a half in :46.43, he was tipped out a path to pass a tiring rival in upper stretch, moved back to the rail with a furlong to run and surged past favored Sea Wizard (Uncle Mo) in the dying strides to win by one length. Destin was a $400,000 KEESEP yearling. His dam Dream of Summer, who won the 2005 GI Apple Blossom H. for breeder James Weigel, produced a filly by Giant’s Causeway in 2014, a colt by Graydar in 2015 and was bred back to Giant’s Causeway. Her Giant’s Causeway filly sold for $150,000 at last month’s Keeneland September sale.
